Sunny Days

Lanes wind and breezes blow,

Cats purr and dogs wag,

Old men stroke their beards.

Time lags and glasses are half full

Or half empty.

Wood is dry as a tinderbox

Even when we don’t know what a tinderbox is.

Wood can also be rotted

Or rotted through.

Or rotten.

Wood can be silky,

Sometimes.

More often it is treated,

Meaning red, deeply red, and shiny and luxurious.

That’s if it’s on the floor.

Wood is elegant,

But it can be crooked too.

Fence posts, and palings are grey,

And are often broken down.

Babies are cute,

Even when they aren’t.

And sunny days are always beautiful.

Even when they aren’t.
