The Last Chore

A hand flipped over the sign and quickly slipped back inside before the door swung shut. The sign read: “Open”. A large brown mastiff had been sniffing its way down the street, sampling the odours at each address before moving on. It finished and walked away leaving a malodorous record of its visit. The door opened, the hand flipped the sign to “Closed”, and Dr. Battersby’s housekeeper Marjorie was on the doorstep with her mop and bucket all over again.
