Most Authors Are Not Saints

Tim Parks has written a very stimulating blog in the New York Review of Books on the misrepresentation of authors’ foibles in biographies. I agree: the weaknesses and quirks and much more unpleasant habits of an author actually make them a more interesting person and make studying the the writing more rewarding too.
